Knowing what to expect with every place you visit gives you a certain peace of mind and a much better access to the ease of doing creative work. This is particularly true if you are visiting famous locations and monuments, imagine if you are visiting Taj Mahal in Agra at 12 Noon and by not kn knowing that its one of the worst times to visit that place, because the overhead sun makes the white marble reflect so much that its practically very hard to get good photos of anything in the premises, for such cases, research plays a pivotal role, research your travel destination as much as you can. Look for information online, or even ask in photography forums or Local photographers of that specific area.

CARRY LESS

Once you have researched your travel destination and know what types of photos you are going to shoot, only pack the required gear. Usually a full frame camera and a lens like 24-70 or 24-120 works well in most of the situations, carrying an additional zoom lens or wide angle lens often don’t come in handy on vacations. Additional DSLRs and multitude of lenses tend to get heavy and uncomfortable to carry around.

ENGAGE

Engage your family in photography, having said so, give your family an old version of camera or lens which you are not using and let them play around with it, teach your kids about the composition, shutter speed, aperture and other basics and you would certainly realize that they would bring some of the most adorable vacation photos which you would cherish forever. Specially to the kids, this makes them very tolerant and less distracted and its always good to learn new things on vacations.
